If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll see that Cameo loves The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He knows the book off by heart (he is only 2 and a half so it goes to show he really DOES love it!) When we were asked if we’d like to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar live show, of course, I said yes! I knew it would make Cameo’s day!
The show we went to was at the new Troubadour White City Theatre in London. It’s a gorgeous new space with great toilet facilities, lot’s of runaround space and based on a green grass area so Cameo could have a good run around before the show. It also meant we could take a picnic and eat it afterwards instead of spending extra money in a restaurant. The parking at Troubadour Theatre was pretty good because there’s plenty of parking at Westfields which is only a 5-minute walk away.
The show itself was brilliant. The story is a classic, I remember it from when I was little. The stage show is a large, interactive puppet show. There’s 75 amazingly made puppets that are adapted from four of Eric Carle’s stories (the author being The Very Hungry Caterpillar). The puppet show starts with a fun display from Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, The Very Lonely Firefly. It ends with the main character, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
We loved that the show production was just as bright and fun as the book. It also went through the book word for word so Cameo was totally enthralled. He shouted out ‘BUT HE WAS STILL HUNGRY’ along with the rest of the children throughout the show. It was so lovely to see his little face light up when he saw the characters come to life on the stage. A real memory for us.
The show was around 45 minutes long which was perfect for us. The recommended age is 1 year plus but little ones aged 18 months plus are also welcome as babes in arms.
