It looks as though lockdowns across the nation will be happening for some time, with kids being told to stay at home when someone at school gets poorly and things like birthday parties and socialising out the window, it’s going to be a tough new chapter for parents. Especially keeping little ones entertained and off the screens which are so often, the easy and only thing to keep kids entertained! So, I’ve been on the hunt for toys and games that can help keep your little ones active, get them away from their screens and having fun.
Stomp Rocket®
The Stomp Rocket is great for getting your little ones in the garden or out to a park. The duelling rockets are good if you have siblings who usually fight over sharing because they get to have one rocket each. Winning! Basically, it’s a base which has 2 Stomp LaunchPads. You jump on the launch pad and the air shoots the foam rockets up to 200m into the sky.
There are no batteries required, it’s light and easy to carry and it gets the kids jumping and running around after the rockets. A word of warning, keep your face away from the rockets at all times, even though they’re made of foam, they pack a punch! Overall, it’s a great game to get your kids active, out and about, AND it’s perfect for all year round! Stomp Rocket® is available from John Lewis, Hamleys, Toymaster and Amazon

Break the Board
This is a great active take on an unusual game that can be played pretty much anywhere. It can be played alone or with up to 9 people, so great to play with siblings and keeping everyone amused. The aim is to become a karate master and you follow the lights and directions to Chop, Strike, and Swipe your way through the game. If you really get into it, it’s actually a really active, fast-paced game, that works better when you’re standing up and going full force. Break the Board has different levels, speeds and modes so you won’t get bored and it’s a great, fun game that needs skill, speed and physical effort. Available from Smyths.

Mega Bounce XL Giant Inflatable Ball
The Wicked Mega Bounce XL is a massive blow-up ball that reaches up to 80cm/31inch diameter. Don’t worry, it comes with a blow-up pump so it’s easily inflated! It’s a great outdoor toy whether you’re in the garden or the park (or even the beach) because it manages to bounce off most surfaces, including grass. There’s something about this that the boys love. I guess anything that’s supersized suddenly becomes epic, and this inflatable ball is one of them! You can purchase yours from WickedMania.

Scuttlebug XL
The Scuttlebug XL is great if you have growing little ones because you can change the height with its adjustable legs and XL wheels. It’s made for ages 2-4 and get’s your little ones working their legs to scuttle themselves around on this great little ride on. It’s pretty speedy and agile so great for the garden.
But when the weather is a bit off, the boys are quite happy to ride it around the house! It’s lightweight so they can move it around and can be folded up for easy storage. A great little ride on for getting your toddlers away from the TV. We love it!

Indoor Booma Boomerang
We don’t all have gardens and we also know that some lockdowns mean we can’t even go to the park. So this Indoor Booma Boomerang is perfect for staying at home but keeping active and having fun! It’s made of soft foam so it won’t go breaking any TV’s and is super lightweight.
It’s specially engineered to work as a Boomerang and it comes with instructions on how to bend it slightly to make it work for your space which is pretty handy. It can also be used outside if you fancy it, but it’s nice to have something active inside the house! Available from WickedMania.

Robo Kombat Balloon Puncher
Another unusual game which will get your children away from the tv, tablets and phones. Robo Kombat Balloon Puncher is a real interactive toy that can be played indoors or outdoors. It’s two robots that each hold a balloon, then you use the remote controls included popping your opponent’s balloon first! It usually takes up lot’s of space, with the kids running around trying to get their robot to pop the balloon first.
It has great sound effects and it isn’t super easy to pop the balloons so it does take some effort. It’s a really fun, active game and it comes with 24 balloons so there’s lots of fun to be had! It’s worth noting that the Robo Kombat Balloon Puncher requires 4 X AAA batteries and 6 X AA batteries so make sure you stock up when you can! Available to buy at Smyths.
