Keeping two young boys entertained in the summer is pretty easy – picnics in the garden, water fights and even just a trip to the local park are usually enough to keep them happy and content. However, as soon as the weather changes things get a little more difficult. Although the boys are quite hardy and we love a good walk in the fresh winter air, when it’s rainy and icy things definitely change.
Entertainment During the Winter Months
We’re big fans of games in this house and the boys love it when we play games as a family. I have found that keeping things interesting with a mixture of both online and board games is the best way. Online games are great but sometimes it can feel as though the boys are having constant screen time and so I want a way to be able to drag them away from the screen for a while.
What I have discovered recently is the option of games that the boys can enjoy online but they also have an entertainment element to them. I wanted to look for games that were fun for the boys but also allowed them to learn a little about life skills. I came across the games on the Mortgage Calculator website and found loads that fit the bill. They really like the money games and the Grocery Cashier one is a particular hit. You have different levels that you can progress though with different customers on each life. You have to enter the cost of items as they speed across the conveyor belt – they love it!
The games they have on the website are really varied and there are lots of options for all ages – for example real estate games, software development games and even games that are designed to make politics easy to understand.
Playing Games Online
Whilst I do think that board games are a good idea and that limiting screen time can be sensible, I also know what it’s like to be a mum and that’s definitely about picking your battles. Whilst the boys love these games and do pick them, I also use them as a compromise when it comes to the boys wanting more screen time. They can play on their tablets as long as its games from this website – they get to have some fun & I get peace of mind that it’s teaching them things too! With so many different games on the site there is always something for them to enjoy, so that keeps them happy!
Of course, there are other ways to keep your kids entertained in the winter. We love a movie and fakeaway night, the boys love building dens in their bedrooms and even getting involved in baking – so with plenty of options and a plethora of games for them to enjoy online there are options for the whole winter – and everyone’s happy!
