With so many bars and eateries in London, it can be a difficult task to narrow down your search. If you need a little help, I’ve found a lovely little place in central London that’s perfect for any celebration, big or small (well, they have a 400 person capacity so you know). Mary Janes is a gorgeously, sumptuous bar situated right next to Tower Bridge. (Amazing transport links too as its a short walk from Liverpool Street station). It has an eclectic opulence to it that means its warm and cosy but super fashionable. I decided to have my birthday celebrations AND a leaving party at Mary Janes last Friday and we really were impressed.
First up their customer service was excellent, I booked a space for 15 people via their reservations email and the response was super speedy and friendly. You can pre order food and drinks at a reduced price too which is always a good idea. When we arrived (a little lot earlier than planned) the staff were more than happy for us to have our table straight away. I love that Mary Janes have a mixture of leather booths, chaise lounges and chunky stools spread around for you to use or push to the side. There’s lots of dance floor space too and the music varied throughout the night by the live DJs, so there is something for everyone.
The happy hour between 5pm & 8pm is pretty generous with 2-4-1 cocktails – I mean come on now. What’s a girl to do when it’s her party. Did I mention the pitchers are also part of the happy hour (just under £10.00)… ahem… excuse me while I make way to the bar to grab some fruity stuff.
The menu at Mary James is varied and great for sharing- I had jerk chicken nachos (I would have a picture, but it got demolished by my friends before I had a chance!) and there’s plenty to go around. I was impressed with the nachos actually. When someone says jerk chicken in a place like this I have my doubts but this was seasoned well with lots of cheese. Yes yes yes! I’ll love to go here for a girl evening for gossip and cocktails. It’s so versatile with quite areas, smaller areas, VIP sections and even a karaoke booth which you can prebook.
For me, I’d have to say this is a winning venue in central London, because it’s reasonably priced, easy for everyone to get too and the decor is pretty luxurious. If you want a bargain, the cocktails are decently priced too. As with anywhere, it starts to get pretty busy after around 7pm so I’d advise you to grab a few happy hour cocktails so you don’t have to keep heading to the bar and if you want a group, make sure you book so you’re not disappointed as it’s a pretty popular spot. It’s nice to go somewhere a little different, with a relaxed atmosphere, slightly mature vibe but with lots of spark. Thanks Mary Janes for a fabulous night. See you again soon!
