I’ll quite happily float my own boat and say I’m pretty good at DIY. Probably better than my husband AND I actually enjoy it, but don’t tell him that haha! Cameo and Marlo always try and help me when I’m putting up a shelf or fixing a door and they’re intrigued every time we walk past a building site or someone renovating their house where we live. So I thought the Smoby Black & Decker One Workbench would be right up their street.
I know Smoby as a great brand when it comes to kids’ toys and it’s been around for generations so I always feel like whatever they bring to the table is always going to be innovative, have great play appeal and will be safe. I always feel like they do really great roleplay and imagination boosting toys too so I knew the Black & Decker One Workbench wouldn’t disappoint.
The Black & Decker One Workbench arrived in a huge box which is always exciting. I just imagine it being wrapped up near the tree at Christmas and seeing your little one’s eyes light up when they realise the box is bigger than them! The workbench needs to be assembled but it’s relatively easy. It took me less than an hour to do from start to finish, this includes getting everything out of the box, reading the instructions, assembling it all and then adding the stickers. There are lots of parts so I’d suggest you assemble it while your little one is in bed so you don’t lose anything or so they don’t get impatient and want to play with it!
There’s no nails or screwdrivers needed, and no batteries required either which is a bonus. One it’s all assembled, it’s all systems go!
The Black & Decker One Workbench has everything your little one needs to feel like a pro engineer. It’s a large, realistic-looking workbench with lot’s of accessories to keeps hands and minds busy. The set includes 7 tools (a spanner, saw, pliers, hammer, screwdriver, elbow spanner, bench vice), plus lots of nuts, plenty of screws, a moving mechanical ruler and a pushing nail function. There’s also plenty of storage for everything to live in. The tools can be popped onto the hanging boards which makes it really easy for little hands to tidy up!
In terms of play, the boys loved the nail function where you can literally hammer a nail into the ‘timber’, pull it out again and then crack on with hammering again. I think a part of it was the fact that they can hit something without me telling them off! They also enjoy just playing around with the screws and the bench vice. All the moving bits keeps them entertained. Cameo’s imagination is on top form right now so he’ll pretend to saw something or build something using the tools which is always cute.
It’s a great toy for helping to develop hand-eye coordination, cognitive and problem-solving skills and of course, it helps get their imagination going. It’s a sturdy and impressive toy, one that has already had lot’s of play time and can be used in all different kinds of imaginary play which makes it well worth the money.
