While I like animals, I’d rather we didn’t have any right now. We don’t have the time or energy to be totally honest. Cameo and Marlo are enough for me right now! So, when we saw the Little Live Pets and Lil’ Birds, we thought they were a great way of the boys having pets, without ACTUALLY having real animals. (A great way of testing the waters if your little ones keep going on about having a pet too!).

First up we tried The Little Live Pets Lil’ Dippers playset which comes with an exclusive unicorn fish, a realistic-looking tank and plant accessories which fit inside to make the tank look really lifelike. The fish also comes with its little feeder too. It retails at £24.99 and the good news is that the batteries are included!  All Little Live Pets Lil’ Dippers fish come in magical packaging, so be careful that you don’t take the fish out of the plastic wrapper… this is where the magic happens!

You dip the magic Lil’ Dippers bag with the fishing inside into the water and watch as your Lil’ Dipper starts to come to life! The fish suddenly starts to move (which really got the boys attention) and as the plastic bag starts to open (the magic tape dissolves in the water) then the swim amazingly swims out of the bag into the tank. It really is quite impressive. The colourful fish are so lifelike in their movements and manage to swim alone, happily around the tank. The set also comes with a metallic feeder which the fish will follow if you put it on the outside of the tank, making them look even more lifelike.

You can buy more fish for your tank too! There are three to collect and there’s plenty of space. The individual Lil’ Dippers retail at £12.99, again, no batteries needed, it also comes with its own magnetic feeder and you only need to take the outside layer of packaging off, keep the fish in its little bag. The boys loved the entire experience (Cameo went to find his fishing rod which makes me think we should never get actual real fish!) and they loved getting the fish to pretend it was having its dinner. It’s really quite impressive and I think I quite enjoyed playing with it myself! You can move the fish to a paddling pool for even more fun!

Another part of The Little Live Pets collection is the Lil’ Birds which cost £9.99 and are really interactive and work SO well. You’ll need a screwdriver and x2 AAA batteries for this one but there’s no other assembly required. As soon as you switch it on, the birdie comes to life. You can stroke it and it turns its head and has over 20 bird sounds which actually sound really realistic. The more you pet it, the more sounds the bird makes. There’s also an easy to use record and play back feature which had the boys well and truly giggling. They even went and put it on the tree in the garden so it could talk to the other birds! So cute! There’s three to collect so I’m sure we’ll be investing in those soon!
