It happens every year. Summer suddenly just seems to arrive in the UK. We’ll have a week of rain, chilly temperatures and grey clouds. Then all of a sudden, we wake up to a heatwave totally unprepared. We quickly buy our kids new vests and shorts, work out if last year’s paddling pool will make it through another summer and of course start thinking about when to have a BBQ. But the one thing we all really need to get sorted is the sunscreen! I don’t know why we panic and then wonder how we’re going to let the kids outside. Well this year, I was PREPARED! I can just about believe it myself.

To be honest, since having the boys, things like sun protection have really played a big part in our lives. Suddenly, I have to do everything within my power to protect these two little beans. Including their delicate skin. Now we have a garden, it’s even more important for us to make sure their skin is protected because they are outside pretty much all day at the moment. Just because we’re not off on summer holidays doesn’t mean that sunscreen gets forgotten!

But I won’t just put anything on my boys’ skin. Especially when it comes to the sun! So, when we gave SunSense a try, I was pretty impressed by the fact that they really do offer expert care for all skin types. The Australian brand knows what they’re doing. (The Aussie winter is like our summer so I know they’re pros when it comes to sunshine already!) They’re also the UK’s number 1 prescribed Sunscreen. I love that they cater for all the family too. From little ones to big ones, lips, face and body. There’s something for even the fussiest of fuss pots to use.

We tried the SunSense Kids’ sunscreen which is specially formulated for the sensitive skin of little ones aged 6 months and over. It provides SPF 50+ broad-spectrum protection which is the highest level of protection when used correctly. It’s also fragrance-free and 4 hours water-resistant.

We’ve been using it in the garden during the recent nice weather and it’s actually been a dream to use. Cameo and Marlo both have dry skin so I really appreciate that the sunscreen has moisturising Vitamin B3 which helps to replenish their dry skin. It really makes a difference and I can actually see some of the benefits of using it. Not just the ‘invisible’ sun protection.

The sunscreen lotion itself isn’t sticky or tacky. It’s going on really smoothly and it’s white so you can see where it’s going on. We apply it before we head out in the garden and then because the boys are in and out of the paddling pool, we reapply every 2 hours. We also make sure the boys stay in the shade where possible and wear little wetsuits to help protect their skin. We attempt to make them wear hats (which they throw off in about 2 seconds). But the SunSense sunscreen is made with delicate skin in mind and I can really see the difference on the boys’ arms compared to other Sun Screens we’ve used. There’s no red bumps or irritated areas caused by the cream, even when we use it generously. Really pleased about that! It’s so hard when something they NEED to use can make them uncomfortable. But thankfully, not in this case. Hooray!

Even fun days in the garden can be hectic. I mean life with two toddlers is generally hectic anyway! It’s nice to know you can rely on expert sunscreen to help look after you and your little one’s sensitive skin. We’re quite good at remembering to apply sunscreen all year round, but we know when summer comes round, we don’t need to panic any more. We’ve got our sunscreen sorted. Have you?
