I’m so sick of the cold weather, all I can think about is summer. What I really want is a summer holiday but sometimes it nice to change things up a bit. I’ve had some pretty good holidays over the past few years but I still have a wish list as long as my arm. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is one of those epic road trips. I know you have to be up on your car care game. You need to keep check of everything from your tyres to your petrol stops, but can you imagine the adventure you’d be on!
Kwik Fit has come up with an E-book sharing the best road trips of Europe. It’s definitely a way of adding a few more holidays on your wish list! The one that feels most achievable for me to do in the relatively near future is The Irish Ring of Kerry. A beautiful, scenic drive that isn’t thousands of miles away. Iveragh Peninsula is actually the correct name and it’s supposed to be the unspoilt part of Ireland. I can imagine just how beautiful the roads and views are. The perks of going on a road trip like this is that you can do everything in your own time, make little detours and really take in the views. It’s a way of getting to know a place a little more personally that if you’re just based in a resort near a beach.
After researching the best road trips around here are the three top tips I’ve found. They’re the tips I hadn’t thought of before so thought they might be useful for you too.
1- Make sure you’re got some spare change floating around to cover road toll charges. There are so many roads floating around where you need to pay for a toll in cash. Just keeping a small amount in the car saves awkward moments.
2- Carry a paper map. I know we all rely on digital navigation now but you never know what the signal is like along an entire route. Keep a paper map on stand by so you can go old school if your signal fails.
3- Pack a cool bag and stock up when you can. One of the best things about road trips is being able to stop and start whenever you want. But, the downside of that is finding places to eat and drink. On long trips there’s nothing worse than being hungry with no food in site for miles. Stock up your cool bag with snacks at every chance and you’re covered.
