You won’t believe me when I tell you this, but the other morning we were up at 4.30 am painting our bedroom white. I guess this is what happens when you have kids who just won’t sleep! But I’m happy in a way because it means out the project is finally underway. This year the aim is to turn our rented house into something we love. We know it isn’t ours but everything inside it is. We’re starting with a blank canvas by painting the odd peachy colour brilliant white and I have lots of ideas to get things going.

My first big thing is to find some unique wall art. I don’t want to choose just any random piece and I’m happy to invest a little this time around to choose pieces that I really, really love. I’m happy to even find some brilliant posters and get those printed. Whatever it is I just want it to be impactful, meaningful and super eye-catching. Here are my top three tips on how to make wall art, work for you.

Look at Collections

I’ve been checking out Fine Art America for some inspiration and their collections of the wall art are right up my street and have given me some brilliant ideas for creating an ensemble of pictures on our now blank wall. Sometimes you just need to see how images look altogether. For example, I love leaf prints. I already have them in my lounge and on my curtains. I think they look amazing and are super modern. I checked out the Banana Leaves wall art and found some amazing canvas prints that will work beautifully together. Finding that inspiration can be the key.

Save & Go Back

My big tip is to save lots of images that catch your eye and then go back to them the next day. It’s amazing how everything from your mood to the lighting can change how you perceive an image. What you loved today you might just think it’s OK tomorrow and what you wasn’t keen on yesterday you might quite like today. I feel like choosing the right wall art is almost like getting a pet! It’s not just for Christmas, it’s pretty much forever!

Hang Tight

One really important thing you need to consider is how you’re going to hang your new amazing art print. Whether it cost you £10 or £1000, it needs to be hung with care. Not just to protect your walls but the image itself. You don’t want your new baby on the floor before you’ve even managed to get to know it!

There are some great new products out there that use non-wall damaging adhesive and can be moved and put somewhere else if you change your mind. I’d suggest pencilling a couple of small dots to check your layout first to make sure it looks aesthetically pleasing.

Always try and follow the instructions that come with your wall art and overall, make sure you enjoy it! There’s nothing like new wall art to make you feel at home.
