Planning your wedding day is an incredibly exciting time but requires meticulous organisation. There are often things you may forget or be unprepared for that can affect your special day. This is why it’s important to follow our foolproof advice to make sure your big day goes smoothly.
From choosing the perfect wedding ring to the ideal venue, here are five of the most important considerations for your wedding.

The perfect wedding ring
Choosing both your wedding ring and your partner’s is often easier said than done. Even if you have a certain style in mind, the sheer amount of options available can be overwhelming.
The first thing to consider is how the wedding ring will complement your engagement ring. For example, if you have a solitaire diamond engagement band, a wedding ring with small diamonds would work well, or a plain band.
You’ll also want to go with a ring that is both convenient and comfortable. See whether the height is something you’ll be able to live with and if the rings stack well together.
The guest list
It’s a good idea to come up with a final guest list before organising the rest of your wedding. This will help with choosing a suitable venue that can hold the correct number of attendees. Also, consider your budget and how many people you can comfortably afford to have.
The most important people to invite are your immediate family members, followed by distant relatives. It’s also fairly obvious that your closest friends should gain top priority, then other friends who you don’t see as often but still consider important.
If you have room for more guests, you can invite your co-workers, friends of the family, or ask your guests if they would like to bring a plus one. Just make sure these are people who you would actually like to be there on your big day.
The location and venue
One of the most important choices you’ll make during wedding planning is the venue where the ceremony and reception will take place. You may decide to use the same venue for both or move to a different location later in the day – just remember the latter will require a lot of additional planning.
Figuring out the size of your guest list and your budget will give you an idea of what venue you should decide on, as well as availability, which is why the planning should commence as soon as possible. While these factors play an important role, you should still opt for something that you love and feel comfortable being inside.
The fine details
There are lots of small details that make up a wedding that you can easily forget about until the big day. If hiring a wedding planner is out of the equation, the research is down to you and your spouse-to-be. Such details include the photographer, the DJ or band, florists, and caterers.
Create a checklist to help you remember everything, and ask your friends and family if they have any additional advice you might not have taken into consideration. Try to organise things sporadically when you find yourself with free time rather than doing everything all at once. This way, you’ll avoid the stress of planning your wedding all at once and forgetting the fine details.
A backup plan
Even with the most thorough planning and organisation, sometimes things are out of our control. Unexpected rain, storms, or extremely warm and humid weather can cause trouble on the day, so it’s best to have a backup plan in place should the worst happen.
If you’re planning an outdoor reception or photoshoot, ask if the venue has any other rooms you can utilise or if they have a marquee to avoid wet weather. During a heatwave, let guests know beforehand to wear something cooler and try to provide fans or air conditioning inside the building.
