How to style a blank wall

Blank walls are common in many homes nowadays. Sometimes a blank wall is needed to break up a room if a lot is going on, but other times, many blank walls need some love and attention. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to style a blank wall and make it a great feature in a home as well as a practical one.

Put up a shelf

Putting up a shelf on a blank wall is sure to add some character. Shelves can come in varying textures, styles and lengths and are a great way to bring a bland wall to life. They can be styled in numerous ways and can provide great storage too. Books, pictures, and plants can sit comfortably on shelves and give a homely feel. Finding the right length shelf is what’s key to dressing a wall appropriately. When a shelf is too long, it can take up a whole wall and make the wall look out of proportion to the room. Alternatively, a shelf that is too small can look lonely and lost. A collection of shelves will often solve this problem as they will have been designed to coordinate with one another, but one shelf at the appropriate length and height can also do just the trick. Adding a shelf also adds texture to a room as it can break up different surfaces and materials.

Add a neon sign

Not every blank wall is destined to have a shelf sticking out of it. Instead, a neon sign may just be a better option for something a little more modern and unique. Neon signs have become a trendy feature in homes in recent years as they can brighten up a space with their charisma, versatility, and luminous features. Similarly to any other wall feature, neon signs can come in various colours, sizes and designs, making them a great fit for any home. The neon signs from Neon Mama will sit comfortably on any wall, although they fit even better when they have a darker background. This really makes the neon colours pop! White signs on a white background can provide a more elegant and chicer look whilst still being pretty stylish. Neon Filter has a huge selection of super on-trend neon signs. These signs are ideal for communal spaces like living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens. This way, everyone gets to enjoy the fabulous neon sign!

Hang pictures, prints or canvases

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to fill a blank wall is to add some sort of artwork. This could be prints designed by a local artist, a canvas bought from a retail store or printed family portraits! As long as it’s in a frame of some sort, it can be hung on the wall. Prints and canvases with artwork can create an artistic approach to interior design, whereas family photos create a more homely design. A mix of both artistic and family prints can be used on a wall, although colour schemes must be similar for the pictures and images to sit well together. Different sizes of prints can work really well together and create a collage for the wall. More prints can be added to the collage or can be rearranged with ease as time goes on.

There are also plenty of other ways to style a wall, perhaps with textured art like macrame or hanging rugs or even with wall decals, amongst other treatments. Some of these can be bought in home interior stores or they could even be homemade. This means the possibilities for styling a wall are endless! Thankfully, there are plenty of home interior design magazines that can provide inspiration and encourage creativity with different wall treatments. This will then help create a stylish wall.
