With travel in 2020 being a little different, it will be no surprise that leisure vehicle manufacturers such as Bailey of Bristol have started to see an increase in interest in their caravan and motorhomes. Personally, I have always liked a staycation and with 2 young boys, staying in the UK certainly seems a little easier. I remember popping to my grandparent’s caravan when I was little and I had the best time! So many brilliant family memories.

Caravans have changed since then, for the better! Bailey of Bristol’s Alu-Tech construction is just one of the new benefits (I’ll explain about this later). This has got me thinking about buying one for when restrictions ease and we can holiday again. I think it would be perfect for a family holiday in the UK. I can’t wait to pack our bags and head off on an adventure in the not too far away future. If you’re looking to do the same as us, here’s a few things to consider.

Do Your Research

Before you decide to purchase (or hire) a caravan, I would advise doing a little research. There are several things to think about, from the type of caravan that you think will suit your family to the car you currently have and what it’s towing capacity is – a local caravan or motorhome retailer can help you here and you can find the ones that stock Bailey products on the Bailey website. Then you need to think about where you’d like to stay in your caravan. There are some really beautiful places within the UK, so choosing where to go first once restrictions are lifted should be the easy bit.

Bailey of Bristol have loads of advice about buying caravans and motorhomes, and socially distanced family fun, on their News & Events page, so you can use this to aid your research. You can also check out their Virtual Showroom where you can have a 360º tour of any caravan or motorhome you’re interested in, from the comfort of your own home! Pretty helpful, right?

Make Sure You Have Plenty of Space With a 6 Berth Caravan

One of the things to consider is how much space you’ll have. Social distancing won’t be around forever (hopefully) so think long term about who is likely to go away with you and where people will be sleeping. Most of us can cope with cramped conditions throughout the day but you’ll want somewhere comfortable for people to sleep at the very least. I know how it feels to have tiny feet kicking my ribs at 3 am and it’s not the perfect situation.

If you have a large family then a 6 berth caravan is certainly recommended. With a 6 berth caravan you know that you’re getting plenty of space – so no worrying about getting under each other’s feet. We’ve been looking at the current Bailey 6 berth range and are thinking of going for the Pegasus Grande SE Turin. It’s got a bed for each of the boys and a fixed double for us! It’s also made with Bailey’s special Alu-tech construction, a unique interlocking aluminium framework that clamps the body panels together to create a robust and durable bodyshell! It’s big, comfortable and durable – just what our family will need for all our adventures!

Be Organised

To be honest with you, being organised is a must when it comes to pretty much any activity with any young family. The last thing you want is to get there & everyone complains because they are bored. So, research things to do while you’re there and make a list of possibilities – that way you have plenty of back-up options should one of your ideas not work out.

The beauty of a caravan is that you can also take your own home comforts – Is there a toy your little one won’t sleep without? Are they fussy eaters? Pack up the boot of your car with everything they might need for a few days away and you know that your caravan holiday is likely to get off to the right start.

I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for when restrictions ease and we can go caravanning again. Are you thinking about buying a caravan, and will it be a 6 berth?
