10 years I would never have imagined I would be one of those people wondering how they’re going to deal with washing machines full of clothes and how to dry them in winter, but here we are and I wouldn’t want it any other way! That’s mum life for you!

Drying Clothes Indoors

Drying clothes indoors isn’t impossible, especially if you have the heating switched on. However, you need to make sure that the room is well-ventilated. Without proper ventilation, the condensation will start to make your walls wet and that’s definitely something to avoid. I try to have the windows open in rooms I am drying clothes. It is tempting to throw them in the spare room to dry out of the way but it’s generally recommended that you use a room you’re in and out of so that there’s plenty of ventilation as you open and shut doors and come and go.

Get a Helping Hand

One thing I like to do to make life easier is to take advantage of services like LaundryHeap. They take your bags of washing and return them the next day washed and dried as if my magic. You can head to their website or app and book in your collection slot and then arrange the delivery of it back when it is done too. I tell you now, being able to just hand it over to someone else and know that I won’t be washing it and then forgetting it in the washing machine or having to find places to hang it out really does make life easier.

Be Inventive

Drying washing can be a pain, but be inventive. For example, when the boys are at school I use things like the doors and banisters to hang bed sheets and big towels to dry. If you have bunk beds then putting things on hangers and hanging them from the top bunk can be useful too. We don’t have room for drying racks everywhere so it’s just being sensible in terms of getting things done as you can.

Dry Outside

Obviously when it is winter and rainy drying your washing outside isn’t going to work, but on those slightly warmer days especially when the sunshine is bright don’t but put off of hanging your washing outside. We tend to assume that you need bright sunshine and heat to dry washing but actually the fresh air will certainly take most of the damp out on other days too, making it easier for you to dry your items indoors.
