While I may not be a wine expert, I love good white wine. I like mine cold (I don’t know if that’s the done thing, but that’s how I like mine!) This is my second wine to review this month from Independent Wine and this time it’s an organic white Arneis wine called “Saglietto” after a vineyard in Roero (Northwest Italy) that overlooks the gorgeous valley of the Tanaro river. It’s the Malvirà Saglietto Arneis 2016 | Roero DOCG and is known as a signature white of Piedmont. With a reputation that big, it has to be good right?

I liked this wine from for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it has a delicate floral aroma, nothing too overpowering. I find white floral wines can taste too perfumery sometimes, but this is light, which suits me well. It also has a gentle touch of vanilla which adds a little sweetness to it. It has a strong aroma, but the flavour isn’t overbearing. It’s a light wine, the fruitiness has elements of lemon and apple for me, although the notes also say tropical fruits and pear. It would work really well with pasta, white sauces and cheese. I’d call this a definite cheese board wine!

Malvirà, who produces this wine is organic certified and carbon neutral which I think is a great thing to keep in mind when choosing your wines. So much goes into making wines so choosing a producer like this means you’re really making a difference to the environment. This is a popular wine that’s been around for some time and I can see why. It’s easy to drink, a great lunch time wine with friends and light on the tastebuds.
