New & Unusual Healthy Snacks – Try Something Different!

It’s that time of year where all the fun starts happening. We’ve got Halloween creeping up, then bonfire night, then what’s next? Well, it’s only that little holiday called Christmas! What’s the one thing that brings all these events together? No, It isn’t late nights and early mornings. It’s food! Come on, you know it’s true.

There won’t be a single Halloween party or bonfire shindig happening that doesn’t have some kind of buffet ready for guests. Not the party type? Fair enough… but I know you’ll be the type who likes to snuggle up on a Saturday night watching strictly and X Factor. Go on, tell me I’m wrong. So with that in mind, I’ve been testing a few new and tasty snacks – with a difference – to jazz up your boring buffets or snacking Saturdays.

Emily Crisps

Kelly Sweet Potato Crisps Review - pretty big butterflies

Kelly Crisps are Vegan and gluten-free

We’re all about a bit of savoury snacking. But these are crips with a twist. Emily crisps are Sweet Potato Sticks and my favourite flavour is the Chilli and Lime. It’s really punchy without being overbearing. They’re totally morish and you might find yourself hogging the sharing packets! The one thing I love about these snacks is that they’re super crunchy. None of this soggy stuff. What else could you ask for? Flavour, crunch AND they count as one of your 5 a day!

Emily Crisps are Vegan and gluten-free which make them the perfect party snack for any event. They look good too and the packaging is fun and funky if you like to leave things around for people to help themselves too.

Wallaroo dried fruit review - pretty big butterflies

Wallaroo - healthy kids snacks - Pretty big butterflies

Dried fruit just got more interesting. Not only is the packaging from Wallaroo fun, fresh and funky but it’s fab for kids AND adults. Wallaroo are all about offering healthy snacks that are Vegan friendly, Gluten Free and Non-GM. They offer big chunks of dried pineapple, mango and toasted coconut.

If you want to offer some sweet but unique treats to your snack cupboard or party table, these are a must. They’re a really delicious range of finger snacks and ones that you don’t mind the kids picking up either. A total winner for me because Cameo loves anything in a shiny packet!

The good thing about Wallaroo products is that they actually taste like what they are. The pineapple, for example, really packs a punch. There are no boring cardboard flavours going on here. This is full on mouth watering stuff.

Wild & Game Pâtés

Wild & Game Pâtés review - pretty big butterflies

low-fat, low-cholesterol game meat snacksThis is a unique one, but one that goes down so well. Think lunchtime snack to party pleaser. I prefer these rich flavours on crusty bread with salad leaves and cucumber on the top. However, My mum is a massive fan of Pates and is somewhat of a pate pro. In her opinion, they were very, very tasty. You don’t need a lot, a little goes a long way. The flavour is really rich and is one to be savoured. She says forget the bells and whistles. Just spread the pate on good quality crusty bread and enjoy.

Wild and Game is a non-profit organisation. Their recipes incorporate low-fat, low-cholesterol game meat from game birds such as pheasant, partridge and grouse. I know this might not be to everyone’s liking and you might think it’s an acquired taste. But it’s definitely worth a try. You’ll surprise yourself and your guests!

The Pâtés come in Grouse, Brandy & Herb or Pheasant, Pistachio & Port. A real party winner

Metcalfe’s Skinny Popcorn – Sweet Chilli

Metcalfe’s Skinny Popcorn – Sweet Chilli

The perfect sweet and savoury snack

Popcorn might not be the first thing you think of adding to a party platter, but trust me, you NEED to! Award-winning popcorn aficionados Metcalfe’s skinny have launched a new flavour. Sweet Chilli. It’s a savoury treat with a hint of sweet. I have to give you a warning, it’s so delicious you won’t stop eating them. Popcorn is perfect for any kind of snack because it’s so easy to eat. You can fill up a huge bowl and let people help themselves. It’s also a great way to keep both the sweet and savoury taste buds happy as this popcorn fits into both categories.

I love the Sweet Chilli flavour because you get a tiny bit of heat left on the tongue. Just enough so that you want more! It’s also suitable for Vegetarians, gluten-free and high in fibre. Oh, and if you’re looking for a lighter snack, these are just 98 calories per serving. Perfect!

Avocado & Strawberries

Avocado & Strawberries

Last but by no means least is one of my newly found favourites. Smushed avocado topped with strawberries. Honestly, if you haven’t tried it, you NEED too! It’s a real tasty winner and it’s super fresh.

You could dish up little mini portions on mini toast as a canape type snack. Or load a bowl with homemade smashed avocado and throw some strawberries on the top. Not only does it taste great but it looks amazing too. We’re all about Instagram ready snacking right?
