Do you remember the huge heatwave we had last summer? I do. I hated it. I was at the end of my pregnancy, just moved house and was basically at boiling point. My feet were swollen- well everywhere was swollen… and I hated the sun. I literally missed the entire summer, either being pregnant or recovering from pregnancy. So guess what? This summer I am going to have the BEST time! From lounging in the garden to taking walks with the boys. I plan on soaking up the sun during the summer holidays and really enjoying the weather. Especially now that we have a garden. BBQs ahoy!
As the weather has been so kind to us, we’ve started our summer holiday prep early by getting a pool out in the garden. The boys absolutely love it. It tires them out and they have no fear of the water at all which is amazing. As you can see, I am THAT mum that dresses my boys the same. Cameo is 2 and a bit and Marlo is currently 10 months old. The gorgeous swimming shorts they are wearing, as well as their dad’s shorts, are from Marks & Spencer. But they’re not just any swimming shorts. They’re M&S sustainable swimming shorts. (see what I did there?!)
The polyester yarn used in their new swimwear is made from 100% recycled polyester. How amazing is that? Marks and Spencer have committed to becoming a zero-waste business by 2025 and their sustainable swimwear is just a small part of that.
I love that the swimming shorts are sustainable but affordable… and boring! The boys are wearing a fun dinosaur print which looks gorgeous and bright in the sun. The drawstring helps create a better fit and they have British Skin Foundation-approved UPF50+ protection. Honestly, it feels like Marks & Spencer actually care about what my kids are wearing! The shorts also have Chlorine resist and Xtra Life Lycra© so they don’t get worn out by all the fun that kids have every summer. So Cameo can wear his again next year and we can pass Marlo’s on to a friend who has just had a little boy. It’s so simple, buy passing clothes along because they’re still in such good shape instead of getting rid of them, helps the environment too!
The shorts are quick dry too, which means if you’re on holiday, a little rest on the beach and the shorts will be dry enough to go and have lunch in. Nothing like a soggy bottom!
The same goes for Chiino’s swimming shorts. They’re a gorgeous orange print and have an improved fit which meant they were perfect for him. They didn’t hang down when they were wet (which he tells me is very important!). They’re quick drying too AND they’re made from 100% recycled materials.
If printed stuff isn’t what you’d usually go for, there’s some really gorgeous, basic block coloured sustainable swimwear too, so you’re not forced into wearing print to be environmentally friendly!
Right now, we’re just enjoying the perks of the British weather while it lasts. The swimming pool in the garden is going down a right treat and I can’t wait until we actually get to go on holiday as a family. At least we know that swimwear is covered for at home or away. The Marks & Spencer sustainable swimwear definitely isn’t a one swim wonder. We’ll know that we can get them out whenever the suns out and because the quality is so brilliant, they’ll be as good as new.
