It’s March already – which means Easter break is just around the corner! And if you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering how to make this year extra special for your little ones. The weather’s warming up, the days are getting longer, and it’s the perfect time to get outside and have some fun.
Hide the eggs!
Easter egg hunts are a classic, but why not give them a fresh twist this year? If your kids are up for it, you could leave clues along the way, creating a treasure hunt atmosphere that will keep your kids on their toes. You could also set up themed hunts based on their favourite characters—think “bunny egg hunts” or even a “princess egg hunt” if they’re into fairytales.
If you’re planning on heading to a local park, check out any public Easter egg hunts that might be going on. Many cities organise special events with themed activities and even larger-than-life hunts that can make the day extra magical, just give your local council website a visit. And don’t forget to bring your camera—these moments are pure gold!
Explore the outdoors!
Spring is the perfect time to explore nature, with flowers blooming, birds singing, and new life emerging everywhere. There is so much to see: New buds on trees, animals coming out of hibernation, or colourful flowers sprouting up. You can even bring along a basket to collect natural “treasures” like pinecones, leaves, and small rocks for a DIY Easter-themed nature scrapbook.
If you’re near a more rural area, consider a nature reserve or forest walk where you can spot local wildlife and springtime blooms. The National Trust, for example, has a lot of Easter activities planned! You can couple this nicely with a little family staycation. We’ve got lovely holiday parks across the UK close to national parks in which you can enjoy some time away from the daily grind.
Craft all the things!
When the weather isn’t cooperating, or you just want a relaxing afternoon indoors, Easter crafts are a fantastic way to keep all hands busy. And the possibilities are endless! Easter baskets, cute bunny ears, or make personalised egg decorations that will brighten up the house. Pinterest is as always, the absolute go-to when it comes to ideas, and I can only recommend giving it a whirl. I’ve already noted down way too many things.
Crafting provides a chance for them to develop fine motor skills and learn about shapes, colours, and textures – or, if they are a bit older, new techniques and materials! If you want to take an eco-friendly route, consider using recycled materials for your projects, like old wrapping paper or egg cartons.
Bake some lovely treats!
What better way to celebrate Easter than with a kitchen full of delicious treats? Baking together is a fantastic bonding activity that can get everyone involved—your kids can mix, decorate, and, of course, sample the goods. Hot cross buns are of course a British favourite, or you could go for bunny-shaped cookies, decorated cupcakes, or an Easter-themed cake that’s as sweet as the memories you’ll make. A lot of cultures around the world have special Easter foods – why not go on an imaginary culinary travel and try something new?
